Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Fahd Al-Zamel, the thirteenth annual meeting of cochlear implant patients and their families, which was organized by the King Abdullah Specialist Center for the Ear, started recently at the King Saud University’s College of Medicine, and the meeting started with verses from the wise male followed by the child Sheehanah Al-Qahtani King Abdullah Specialist Ear, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahman Hajar, a word in which he indicated that hearing disability is one of the most prevalent physical disabilities, adding that 2 out of every 1,000 births have a hearing disability, which constitutes 10 percent in the world, expressing his hope to implement a hearing survey for newborns To the Kingdom, stressing during his speech the importance of early detection and treatment as it is difficult to treat after the age of five.
Dr. Hajar added that heredity has a major role in infection, as studies indicate that 50% of patients have a history in the family, whereas in the West 90% of people with hearing impairment have no history in the family.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Dr. Fahad Al-Zamil said that this thirteenth annual meeting of cochlear implant patients and their families is distinguished by the participation of a group of specialists in all disciplines and sectors, indicating that the e-cochlear implant program has gone through great stages during the twenty years and this success would not have occurred had it not been for God then with the efforts of doctors with a high degree of scientific and professional competence which proudly graduated from the College of Medicine at King Saud University.
Dr. Haya Al-Awad, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Girls’ Affairs offered her thanks and appreciation to those in charge of this occasion, stressing the importance of this event, noting that the Kingdom’s 2030 vision included people with disabilities by ensuring the right to education for them, stressing the importance of human investment for all of its senses, including the sense of hearing.
After that, the Dean of the College of Medicine honored Professor Dr. Fahd Al-Zamel, the children of the cochlear implants, and the participants in this meeting.
